When my two best friends, Shosh and Jack (who were marrying each other), asked me to design the stationery for their wedding, I was absolutely stoked. It felt like the perfect introduction to wedding design—and such a special way to contribute to their day. From the beginning, Shosh had a clear vision: she wanted the aesthetic to feel luxurious, timeless, and elegant. We landed on a classic black-and-white palette, using a combination of refined serif fonts and a delicate script font to bring a sophisticated, chic feel to every piece.

Over the course of six months, we worked closely together on 13 different deliverables, making sure no detail was overlooked. The design carried seamlessly across every item—from the 3-piece invitation set to on-the-day linen signage and printed materials. We collaborated with both a New Zealand and an Australian printer to achieve the highest quality finishes, ensuring that everything not only looked beautiful but also felt premium in-hand. Every design choice was made to complement the stunning setting of Mudbrick Winery on Waiheke Island, New Zealand.

We made sure to source high-quality silk-finish ribbons for both the invitation set and personalised champagne bottles. For the signage, we used a custom linen fabric used specifically for weddings, paired with a matching display stand that we sourced to keep everything cohesive. Even the table number stands were considered—we sourced simple natural wooden stands and decided to hand-paint them black to better complement the black border used in the table number designs.

With 130 guests attending, the seating chart required thoughtful design—clear and easy to navigate, while still aligning with the elegant aesthetic. One of my favourite touches of the project was designing a custom “JS” lettermark monogram, which we turned into an embossing stamp. We hand-pressed this into each and every 130 black envelopes, which held the three-piece invitation set—adding a tactile, bespoke finish that elevated the entire experience.

It was such a surreal moment to see all of my design work in print and in situ. After months and months of planning, sourcing, designing and refining, it was incredibly rewarding to stand in the space, and see all of our hard work—every detail exactly as we had envisioned.

What made this project even more special was how beautifully everything tied together—from the stationery and signage to the groom’s suit and the bride’s dress—and the fact that I had the honour of bringing it all to life for two of my closest friends. It’s a project I’ll always treasure and look back on.
